Honey was the sweetest little dog, loving, gentle and totally silent. Sadly, her mind was still fully intact but her poor old body just gave out. She had been having trouble staying standing for the last few weeks and finally she just could not manage to control where her legs went. Even with extra rugs down, she could not stand so the sad decision to release her from her no longer working body was made. Rest in peace, whole once again, and know you are missed and still loved.

Honey: 20 pound mixed breed, moved in 8-16-01 (Spayed female 20 on arrival)

Honey was "left with friends" when her owners went on a 7 month "working vacation". She somehow got away from her care takers the day her owners left and found herself in the local shelter. After many calls the shelter staff finally located a friend of the family that alerted other family members. Basically when they discovered money was needed to bail her out, they said to put her down.

She is not yet ready to go, is freshly groomed, shots updated and is fitting in just fine so far. She has scoped out the available dog beds and "taken residence" on the bed in the alcove. From there she can view the comings and goings but is out of the way of the romping feet headed up/down the hall. She loves her tail scratches, any attention at all actually, and her tail goes a mile a minute when "loved on". There is still some "bounce" left in this lovely old girl and she is more than welcome here for as long as she chooses to stay. Welcome to the senior pack sweet dog!!

Emma had a rough life before arriving here, shuffled along from person to person as she got weaker and sicker. Once here her badly infected teeth were fixed, good food was applied and eventually she began to thrive. Lately she had lost all sense of where she was but she knew how far she needed to walk to get outside, though sometimes she walked that distance in circles around the house instead of getting outside. No problem, linoleum floors mop easily and she did try. Her body and mind seemed to be getting farther and farther apart until this morning when she thought one of her legs was a foreign object and she tried to kill it. Nothing more could be done for her so she was gently released to the bridge. Enjoy the sights and sounds and your fully functional body and mind now little one. Your feeding time "harks" will be missed.

10-18-02 Due to her failing health she is now retired to SDHR for the rest of her life.
Vet fees paid "In Memory of Tyler" and "In Memory of Ruby". Thank you so much!
Gentle, quiet senior
"Emma" is a Lhasa mix, at least 10, spayed, shots current, house broken and so far, not interested in learning dog door. She is quiet except at feeding time when she joins the chorus of "harkers" letting me know I am not moving fast enough. :) She would love a home where she can hang out at the feet of her person, sleep on a soft cuddle bed and get attention when she wants it and is awake. She does sleep a lot, has a bad left front leg due to an old break that apparently was not set. It does not slow her down at all though. Her sight is not the best but she hears well and will follow your voice or a patted leg if she can't quite make out where you are. Looking for a calm, quiet, unassuming companion? Emma is looking for you too!!

Update 4-15-02: Emma quit eating 4-8-02 and was quite ill so she was at the Vet's until this morning on IV's and antibiotics. It appears she will be OK in time, is now eating and hopefully on the road to being all the "Emma she can be" from here out.

Today I helped sweet, loving Marley cross the Bridge. He had been having seizures for the last 5-6 weeks and had 2 of them today, bad ones and it was just the right and only thing left to do for him. He had another milder one as I put him in the crate to take him to the Vet. I was actually surprised to see him facing out and still alive when we opened the back to get him out. He was not "with it" when I opened his crate and he wobbled out but did rally enough in a few minutes to gobble up his "treats". He tried for my fingers too, so that made me feel better that Marley was in there and knew me and our routine.

His passing was fast, easy and graceful as his life here had been. I will miss his romps, quiet presence, sweet loving face and attempts to eat my fingers every time I reached to pet him. If he saw a hand, he was positive that hand held food and he was not shy about grabbing it and not very gentle at times either. I have only called him three times since I got home without him so am not doing too bad though it does make some of the dogs here look for him too when they hear his name.

He was not here long, only 5 short months, but he was loved, groomed, had several soft, fluffy dog beds to choose from, was well fed and will be greatly missed. I was truly blessed to have him in my life and will miss his quiet presence.

Special needs senior!
"Marley" is a leggy, neutered, shots current, ~15 year old Mini Poodle. He is house trained though he does "leak" at times and is on medicine for that. He is a quiet, loving, gentle old boy that just wants a human to call his own again. He is a real sweet boy, loves to stand and put his head on your knee and get gentle petting. He will also try to climb in your lap if you quit petting before he is ready for you to stop. Looking for an unassuming little dog that just wants to be loved? Marley fills that need nicely.
12-12-03 Sadly, Chiquita went to the Bridge today, 12-12-03. She had not eaten or taken any water in 4 days, she was dropping weight and vomiting her meds. She could not be stabilized and there was nothing more that could be done so she was released from her pain. At least her last months were filled with the love and good care she did not get in her first 10 years. Go with the light sweet dog!

Senior, Special needs, Cushings dog!
Columbia Falls
"Chiquita" is a 10 year old Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix who is a special needs girl. She was severely abused, having both her front legs broken and left to heal with no medical attention. When we got her she had a large, deep purple bruise from a kick to the belly. Needless to say, she is very fearful, and would need to be in an adult only home. (She is very fearful of tall young men.) She gets along well with other dogs and cats though. Chiquita is also suffering from Cushings Disease. This is a glandular disorder that causes her to be over weight, loose her hair, and have dry, ouchy skin. We are just beginning treatment, so she is not stable yet. When she is, she will need medication weekly, which should make her fine again. She is not well socialized, but is very sweet and potty trained. If you have a lot of patience, and understanding, then Chiquita will repay you with her love and devotion.

Update 12-10-03 Chiquita was just diagnosed with a heart condition. It is over sized and full of fluid on the left side. This is causing her to retain fluids. She's now on heart meds and a diuretic, but not eating or eliminating that I can see. Odd when on water pills. She's also lost over a pound in about a week and a half, maybe two. Time will tell how she will react to the medicine and hopefully it will help her feel a lot better soon.
