"Toy Munchkins", Fact or Fabrication?

I thought I had heard everything until tonight, 8-26-01. A friend called me and asked if I had heard of a "new, rare, dog breed", the "Toy Munchkin". I had never heard of this "breed" so did a search and found pages of Munchkin CATS listed. He kept insisting it was a DOG so I kept looking. Then, lo and behold, tucked way down the list of "Munchkin" topics, on page 7 of the list, was a listing for them as dogs. After looking over this site I came to the conclusion this is a fraud being perpetrated on very gullible people with more money in their wallets than brains in their head. People, you need to research these things before spending your hard earned money to purchase a "fad" animal.

It appears someone is breeding/selling very small Poms and shaving the rear half of them and calling them "Munchkins". How sad that someone is selling these tiny, possibly sickly, genetic misfit Pomeranians, or mixes, as a "new, rare breed" and asking $2000 - $4000 each. I wonder how long it will be before we start getting them into rescue? Here is the only website I found "advertising" this new breed and it is the same one listed in the "follow up" page of the original site I found.

Once you read the description of the Toy Munchkin, take a look at the AKC standard for the Pomeranian and you will see a remarkable similarity.

If anyone with more knowledge of these dogs would like to post their findings on this page, email me and I will add them to this site also.
