FINE--- Judith (Jude) Rona
Jude Fine of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the age of 53 years. It was on this day that the world lost an extraordinary person and one of the greatest ambassadors for canine rescue. Jude was known far and wide for her tireless work helping animals; she was the founder of the Senior Canine Rescue Society; an organization which assisted senior dogs in need all over North America. Jude is personally responsible for hundreds of happy endings and new beginnings; she saved countless lives during the course of her rescue work. Jude was a selfless advocate for the underdog and a champion for the weak, the needy and the voiceless. Jude was a hero to many people and a guardian angel to many spirits. While Jude had many talents (she baked fantastic cookies!!) she will be most fondly remembered for her greatest passion--helping others. In addition to her loving family in Ontario, she is mourned by her many friends all over North America. Her spirit and generosity lives on throughout the world.

A Celebration of Jude's life will be held at McInnis & Holloway's Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive SW) on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 2:00 pm. If friends so desire memorial tributes can be made directly to either Heaven Can Wait (Box 6131, High River, AB T1V 1P7) or to the Pound Rescue (Box 73, Site 2, RR 2, Okotoks, AB T1S 1A2).

Jude doing what she did so well, taking another little old lost soul into her care!

Jude was an amazing person and had the biggest heart for the underdog, human or animal! She was also the driving force for senior dog rescue and their major and tireless champion! There are literally thousands of souls now alive and loved in homes that otherwise would not have survived their stay in various shelters around the country, actually in both the US and Canada!

I first 'met' Jude on an email list in the mid 90's and she and I became friends through our mutual love for the senior dogs so in need. We met in person for the first time with the hand off of this sweet little poodle! She helped me refine my passion for the senior dogs into a senior rescue of my own and over the years her love and guidance has shown back through the eyes of the many sweet beings I have helped as well.

Over the years we exchanged many things, laughter, commiseration, dogs, hugs, differences of opinion, tears but always there was the knowledge that she was a true friend and love was always present. Humans like this don't come around often but when they do, it is quite a ride to take part of the journey with them!

More times than I care to remember she helped me work out of despair, frustration, lack of vision on how best to proceed in sticky situations and released me with my resolve clear and feet firmly facing forward once again. I will always remember her calm and wise counsel when in need of guidance.

I now toast you with love, hugs and lots and lots of chocolate!

Peg Banks, longtime friend, shares her thoughts of Jude here. (last post at bottom of page)
